More pop ups in safari after update?

After updating safari to the newest version i have started getting popups. I have the block popups option checked. I get them whenever i go to both cnn.com and appleinsider.com. Has anyone else experienced this and is there any other options that i need to check to get rid of the popups. Before upgrading i never had any problem with it.
