Ok, so stupid question, but I know multi casting is used or can be used for deploying an image, but is multicasting used when a client is put into netboot mode to look for a netboot server?

Reason I ask is that here with our network, we have countless VLAN's and for pretty much the year we ran with the NeetBoot server running with a Trunked port on the switch with a VLAN created for each subnet/VLAN to allow in & out coming communication so that clients would see the server and pickup on the session.

It was suggested that it would be easier to remove trucking and turn on IGMP which was supposed to do the same type of thing but with out needing to setup all the VLAN's. Now that this change has been done, the NetBoot server (OS X Leopard) is no longer seen from any clients that are put into NetBoot mode.

Any ideas,
Tks,

.

The clients are broadcasting using BSDP, not multicasting.

Thanks, contacting our internet provider right now to have BSDP opened up on the switch port that this server runs through. Hopefully this will be the fix. Thanks Art!

Btw, BSDP is a subset of DHCP. If DHCP is already allowed through, then you have a different problem.

Right now, I'm just asking for the port for the server to be put back to trunking and will add all the VLAN's.... should have left it. Go with what has already worked and down what was needed.

Tks,
