The following rumor is going around like a virus: Apple intends to sell off its pro apps.

Details - if you can call them that - in this article.

ProVideo Coalition.com: Capria TV by Frank Capria | Founder

I can't really imagine they'd do it. One of the strengths of Apple is its being close to software development.

I heard another rumor, too (no article here): that Apple is developing a Photoshop competitor.

Now you've got them left and right: rumors, rumors, rumors.

Looks like when nothing's happening, we create our own happenings, and call them rumors (it could be true, couldn't it?).

Apple already denied the rumors though.

According to Apple itself, NAB rumours that it wants to unload Final Cut Pro and other post products are wide of the mark, writes Dick Hobbs. "I can categorically state, on the record, that is not the case," said Richard Townhill, Apple's director of marketing for professional video applications [...]

But yes, I read about some wild Photoshop-competitor rumors too. It would only make sense.
There were the wildest conspiracy theories floating around on John Nacks Blog (well, the comments) when Apple stated that they would not allow Adobe to develop flash for the iPhone — quite an amusing read. Time will tell.

There is just no reasoning that would make sense of the idea of Apple selling off its pro apps - it's literally nonsense.

Even Cringely's notion - selling them off in order to pave the way to buy Adobe - makes no sense. Why would you sell off a market-leading product and brand-name like Final Cut in order to buy an also-ran competitor like Premiere?

Of course Apple have confirmed they have no intention of selling off FCS or other pro apps - they've just released Final Cut Server which will help FCS adoption by larger-scale outfits such as big post houses and TV stations.
