The program was working but taking forever to check and send mail. It finally quit and I set up entourage (works well but I don't have the conduits to sync with it) but it worked fine.

I have reset up the accounts on the mail program and found a SSL setting on the incoming server that would block me connecting. No option to set it up it just did. Once I changed the setting the program works but is still slow sending mail. I now receive lightning fast but a good two to three minutes to send. Size of email does not seem to matter as far as the time it takes to send. Any ideas??

check your upload speed on Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

Just want to make sure you have a normal upload pipe.

download 2.3 mb and upload 312 kbs. My internet speed is fine but the mail is slow. My son sent me a link to a forum that stated to add a dns setting to mail to speed things up but mine was all ready entered there.

I sent a two line email that took 40 secs to send...the next one (withina couple on minutes) was almost instantly sent. Why??

Do you have a ton of mail saved
With some loud music + a friend to chat nearby you can get alot done. - but jezz, I'd avoid it if I had the choice---- If only real people came with Alpha Channels.......:)

Sounds like bad servers. What mail provider are you using?

Apple and Intel: As kosher as a cheeseburger.

Mail is a POS client, it behaves like ass and seems like it was designed by a bunch of monkeys as far as how it scales and interacts with IMAP servers. I'm really looking forward to Thunderbird 3 so I can drop Mail.

Agreed. Is there a beta available that's any good?

I agree - but only for IMAP accounts. It's great with POP3 accounts, at least that has been my experience.

You can download their nightly build which is represented as a pre-alpha 1 build, but it seems no different than Thunderbird 2 right now. The focus for TB 3 is interface enhancement and native UI stuff, which is really all it needs... That and the universal Inbox feature which I like.

They are also working on integrating Lightening, which I'm less than keen on. I actually do like iCal a lot.

Yeah, but POP3 is a brain-dead simple and brain-dead in general protocol. There is much less that one can screw up developing a POP3 client.

Can't be.

I'm sure Thunderbird would have fixed the server problem, made you coffee and washed & ironed your laundry.
