I believed the claim by Nova that Cinematte was CS3 and Leopard compatible. I have done everything inc reinstall Leopard. This is the only CS3 plugin I have that does not have a .plugin extension. I have spent DAYS on trying to get this to work.
The real killer is that -- when all else failed -- I asked for my money back and was told by Kermit from Nova that they don't do that.
They can't do that can they? Could anyone feel safe dealing with a company like that? I'm NOT happy -- useless software, fine promises, no solutions.
Any ideas???

I hope you feel better for venting here. Now... How much time did you spend talking to Nova about getting stuff to work-before asking for your money back? Did they provide ANY assistance? Did they give you a lot of possible fixes, but none of them worked?

Remember, this is not the Better Business Bureau. Griping out a company is fine, but only if you've actually put in the effort WITH THEM to try to resolve the issue. You have pointedly NOT said that you did so. Can you update us on the issue, perhaps with answers to my questions above?

In reply to the question -- yes, I exchanged several emails -- and I was sent an ISO image which was supposed to fix everything. I have been in IT for over 30 years -- I assure you I tried everything -- as I said -- even a complete re-install.
Apart from sending me the ISO image -- the support offered was 'It should work'!!!
The whole episode has stretched over weeks. ALL the initiative for finding a solution came from me.
I would like the plugin IFF it works but...
Hence my question -- can they get away with the false and misleading advertising?

I'd say that it's not "false" if other people DO get it to work... Since I've never heard of this app before now, I can't say anything about it. Hopefully others will chime in with either "yeah, it works fine, here's how I did it..." or "no, it was crap for me too." That will help everyone sort this out. It could be that Nova figures it should work, and your issue is the first they've heard of it not working. Not terribly likely, but it's possible.

I hope I didn't sound too harsh, but most of the time people join our forums to vent, they do it without having taken even the simplest of steps to resolve the issue. "Talk to the vendor? Why would I do that?" You get the picture. No problems with venting here, just that too many people vent and gripe without having "earned" that privilege by doing their own leg work. I'm hoping this actually does get resolved here.

No problems, I understand.
Kermit claimed at first that those with problems needed the ISO image. Later, he implied I was the only one!
Now I have set up labs etc -- thousands of machines -- over more than 30 years and trouble shooting is what I do best -- It was at that stage that I did a system reinstall etc. -- no effect.
I live in Australia so it is an International install of CS3. The critical thing for me is that this is the ONLY plugin I have -- of many -- that does not have a .plugin extension.
I found a *feature* in CS3 that indicates you can enter a legacy pre CS2 serial number to allow legacy plugins to work. My research discovered that Adobe has not got this working to date. I suspect that the plugin architecture in Cinematte is old and just not compatible.

...or only compatible with certain versions of CS3-say the U.S. version...

I have no clue why they'd produce something that was supposed to be a "plugin" for an Adobe product and not have it use the standard extension. That's pretty weird.

That's why I don't believe them when they say I am the only one with a problem.
When I suggested my plugin format supposition to Kermit, he dismissed my concerns saying their format had worked for years -- yet I know that Adobe changed their plugin format a few years ago and broke many plugins that used to work.
