Hello, I migrated to Safari from Firefox when I bought my Macbook, liking it's simplicity and speed. At work (in a one-deep office), I have to use a dial-up connection for internet access. At home I have cable. Naturally, I have an accelerated dial-up service that requires me to use a proxy on my machine. One thing I HATED about trying to use Firefox is having to change the proxy settings every time I go to work, then again when I get home. This just pushed me towards Safari even more, as Safari detects this automatically and behaves accordingly. Now, Firefox has an option for 'Automatically detect proxy on this machine' or something like that, but when I enable it, the internet speeds suffer noticeably. SO, in a nutshell, I would like to create an Applescript to change the proxy settings for me. I don't mind if I have to run it, but of course it would be a big plus if it could run automatically based on how I am connected to the net (external modem vs. ethernet vs. airport). Does someone know where I would need to start, as far as some resource I could use to help me create such a script? I have done some BASIC Applescripting, but this is over my head

I'm also trying to find an Applescript to change the proxy. The capability isn't in the Firefox dictionary for Applescript, so it is a bit trickier to write. If you find a script, though, you might look into the program Marco Polo, which can make changes based on your network. I have it change my system proxy setting now, it just doesn't help yet with Firefox.

I found a way to have Firefox change the proxy. Add the System Proxy addon along with Marco Polo. System Proxy lets Firefox use the global proxy setting, and Marco Polo sets the proxy automatically once configured.

Thanks for the info! I will check into those. It will be great to just be able to launch Firefox whether I am at work or home, and not have to fiddle with proxy settings!
