hi all. so i have a french film that i ripped using mtr. when i encoded it with handbrake, i selected the first audio track to be the dubbed english version and the second audio track to be french. i also selected subtitles in english.

when i tried to play the movie on my atv, there is no audio whatsoever. obviously i did something wrong as it relates to trying to get multiple audio and subtitles (i normally just do a single audio track in english obviously).

any help is appreciated. thanks.

Sometimes there is more than one "English" subtitle track. Do you see more than one in the subtitles pop-up menu? Also, I've never tried a movie with 2 audio tracks on the Apple TV? Have you tried with just one?

How did it come to this? Goodbye PowerPC. | sensory output

there is only one english subtitle track in that menu. i have not tried it with just one audio track, but i wonder if that is all that atv supports. there doesn't seem to be a way for atv to let me select which audio track it should play the movie in.... the atv remote really just has those few basic functions.

I have tried different iterations on Handbrake. Your best bet is to just choose one audio track and turn subtitles on. I have had no problems using handbrake and the files even work on a PSP, too.
