I've tried changing from US English to British English in Word without success. A choice of languages comes up beneath the Custom Dictionary box. I ticked English UK but the spell checker remains in US English mode for spell checking no matter if I quit Word or my iMac and restart. How do you change the language? (I've asked this question on another forum. No answer so far. If I get a successful answer from here or there, I will post it up accordingly.)

I'm able to answer my own question! To change the language you want for proofing, FIRST go to Languages under Tools, check off your new language, then check Default. I was going straight to Spelling & Grammar and checking UK English, but that does nothing at all--except cause unlimited frustration.

Going at anything in Word and assuming it will behave in a predictable way is a recipe for frustration.
