Since this question was embedded in another post I thought I would create another thread about it. I need to hear from everyone about how office 08 runs on a 600mhz G3. I have found conflicting stories on the internet. Some say it runs fine. Then some guys on here say it won't run at all. Is there anyone that runs 08 on a G3? I am trying to figure out if my 600mhz 20 gig HD maxed out G3 will run it. Thanks.

I've seen it run on a Al PB 1GHz with 512Mb of ram and it was very slow compared to Office 2004. Wouldn't like to say how well a G3 could cope running it.

As I said in the previous post, I put Office 08 on my G4 just in case while I waited for my macbook to arrive. It was annoying, and I found myself taking it off before my macbook arrived. VERY SLOW.
G4 specs at the time of this:
450mhz cpu
120gb hd
1.25gb ram

Despite the huge amount of ram, the "new word" would gobble up CPU space
2.2ghz IC2D Macbook MDD PowerMac G4
iPhone 3G Elgato EyeTV 250 Plus

Okay. So, I best stay with 04. I know it will run. Thanks.

Yep, definitely stick with '04 on a G3. If you're worried about compatibility with the new OOXML file formats (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx), make sure you update to 11.5 and install the OOXML File Converter here: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx. Once you install both, Office 2004 should fully support reading and writing the new formats.
