Hi All,

I'm helping a friend out, they're trying to publish a single-page website that was built in iWeb 1.1.2 (their Mac is running OSX 10.4.11).

Strangest thing is that, with each carriage return, apostrophe and quote mark, we're getting a non-standard character showing (e.g. a "tm" mark, a euro currency symbol). Makes the site unreadable. We're testing in both Safari and Firefox, and are getting the same errors.

Even if we open a new page, use a template and change nothing, the resulting template page has these non-standard characters. Look here to see what's happening (this is the template page, you can see an "A with carat on top" between the two paragraphs and a Euro and "tm" after "Kevin" in the title, which is merely an apostrophe I put there to demonstrate the error).

iWeb is making the page using character encoding UTF-8, but the browser is assuming ISO 8859-1 (ie, what most pages use). Not that I use iWeb, but isn't there some way to make it encode all non-standard chars as HTML entities?

Your server is probably misconfigured to force all browsers to use the wrong encoding.
