Apps stop working after update?

I installed the latest iTunes update as prompted by my computer, but now iTunes has stopped working. I click on the icon and it bounces once, and nothing else happens. The same thing happens for skype and ichat and installer, but everything else seems to be working fine. I tried uninstalling iTunes but as installer doesn't work this doesn't help much. Any advice?
