I was wondering what happens if you use AppZapper and zap your iChat.app? Lately I been having problems with iChat. When I go adding a buddy, the buddy signs on, screen name flashes for 2-3 seconds and then it just disappears. I looked through and found that I need to delete some of those .plist files and I did. It did solve the problem temporary then it goes back to doing it again.

Maybe the iChat 4.0.3 I have is corrupted? Is it possible to download another copy of iChat through Apple or I have to use the Leopard DVD which I don't have?

Try creating a new user first and see if the issues occur there as well. If they don't, you don't need to hassle with reinstalling iChat.

A new user name as in a new aim screen name? I been using this screen name since 2005

It really pisses me off that it happens every time and I have to delete the .plist files.

A temporary new user account on your computer. Launch iChat from the new user and if it works, it;s not a problem with iChat.
