I have Entourage setup on my new iMac, I have it configured via IMAP, is there anyway to have the email instantly delivered to my email client, Entourage seems to login every 10mins or so, I thought IMAP was suppose to be instant, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Push IMAP is instant, Pull IMAP requires polling every x minutes. All you can do is get Entourage to poll more frequently.

Entourage supports idle. It seems you found the setting. The only downside is it won't auto dismiss error dialogs. This means it'll stop getting mail and won't reconnect until you manualy close the dialogue box. Thunderbird doesn't have this problem.

Entourage supports IDLE, but IDLE support alone is not enough to reproduce what Push IMAP offers. There needs to be something on the server that notifies the idling connection of new mail to download for instant delivery.

However, for most people I'm sure that checking every minute would suffice.

right. It needs to be on the server side as well.
