After some maintenance and installing a new mail address on my Mac I now find that I am constantly requested for a new password entry. I have sent many test emails to all my addresses and they send ok but when I try to retrieve them I get the new password requests, but after cancelling these I then get my emails ok from all addresses. I have tried to save the passwords when asked but it makes no difference.

However, If it matters I did delete all my pop3 password entries in Keychain Access during a cleanup and wonder if this has caused the problem. I am running Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.4 and Thunderbird 2.0.0.16.

As I said I receive all emails ok but keep getting the password pop up, very annoying! I have seen Mozilla help on creating a new profile but cannot understand it. All PC jargon! However I realised I have a backup of everything in Time Machine on external hard drive - can I restore from that ?

I'm assuming that after you enter your password, it is accepted and you are able to get your mail immediately? That password prompt can come up when the mail server cannot be contacted, or there is a significant lag.

I don't think that Thunderbird uses the OS X Keychain, did you ever have your POP3 account setup in another client?

Sometimes emails appear behind the password request pop up straight away, and sometimes don't appear until after the request has been cancelled. That's the point, in that I am now NOT entering any passwords just cancelling the window and then all emails are there.

No I have not had any other email clients while I have had this Mac. Also do you know how to access the Thunderbird profile manager as I learn this is the usual first step in problem solving with Mozilla. I cannot find it!
