I am trying to transfer some old VHS tapes to DVD/computer. I purchased a Diamond One-Touch VIdeo Capture thing from Amazon. I knew that the software included would only work with windows, but I read that imovie would have no problem detecting the source and I could just edit in imovie.
Now that I have it though, it seems that I can't get imovie to detect the USB to VHS connection. I did some searching, and some people are saying you can only transfer via firewire to a mac. seems like that can't be the case, since there are mac-specific devices for sale that say they transfer via USB 2.0, just like the one I have -
this one, for example. Is there some sort of software or a plugin that I can download that will recognize the connection and allow me to watch/capture/transfer via the device I have? I tried MacCam and USBVision and neither seemed to work...and I did find the following statement in iMovie's help...but I can't figure out how to do what it's saying since it doesn't recognize:
"Some camcorders may not have a FireWire port. For example, some cameras that produce MPEG-4 video use USB ports as video connections. Although you cannot import the video directly into iMovie HD, you can use the USB port to transfer your footage onto your hard disk, and then drag and drop your video clips into your iMovie HD projects."
help!
