Strange problem here on my iMac (white, 17" screen, 1 GB ram, Intel duo core, 10.5.4, all software and system updated).
I have a Tinderbox document that doesn't open with version 4.5 but does open with 4.02 on my iMac. This document opens fine on my Macbook and another MacAir with version 4.5. Also, from Time Machine, I can open up document versions in March with version 4.5, but not after that time.
This problem seems to have been building up over time, but I'm not sure how long. A few weeks ago, I noticed that I couldn't open the document with the dialog box that comes up when first opening the program, but I could open the document just by clicking on it directly. But in the last two days, after I open it that way, I get the spinning ball. (After 2 minutes I force quit). And now I can't open it at all. It crashes before it gets fully open.
I've taken these steps without any success:
Used Font book to check fonts (all okay)
Repaired permissions with Disk Utility.
Deleted plist.
Deleted application (with AppZapper) and reinstalled. (also deleted trash and restarted before reinstalling)
Another strange note is that after reinstalling the program, I'm back to the spinning ball but not the immediate crash upon clicking on the document.
Because it opens fine on other computers, it doesn't seem to be the program or the particular document but some conflict with my iMac.
Any suggestions on other steps to take in resolving this problem?
Thanks.

From the console, I see these messages related to Tinderbox:

9/2/08 12:45:28 PM Tinderbox[365] An exception *** -[NSThread copyWithZone:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xda461e0 is raised in CallFontPanelSelectFonts.
9/2/08 12:45:29 PM com.apple.launchd[100] ([0x0-0x31031].com.eastgate.tinderbox[365]) Exited abnormally: Bus error

And similarly just today:
9/3/08 9:33:50 AM Tinderbox[411] *** -[NSThread copyWithZone:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xfdb9d60
9/3/08 9:33:50 AM Tinderbox[411] An exception *** -[NSThread copyWithZone:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xfdb9d60 is raised in CallFontPanelSelectFonts.
9/3/08 9:34:36 AM com.apple.launchd[308] ([0x0-0x54054].com.eastgate.tinderbox[411]) Exited: Terminated
I'm not sure what it's saying, but I see something Font. As mentioned earlier, I used Font Book to check the fonts, and they checked out okay. What do you think?

It's definitely choking due to a font issue. Have you thrown out the app's preferences file?

Yes, I did. I'm using AppZapper, which found 4 different related files. To be sure, I just deleted it again, and Preferences was one of the files deleted. After deleting, I empty Trash, and restart. Then opened Tinderbox with the same problem again.

You may have to disable all third party fonts and then selectively reenable them until you find the one that's causing the crash.

Okay. Can you tell me how to do that? Besides Font Book, I have LinoType Explorer, but I know little of how to use them.

Because Font Book said all of my fonts were good, I decided to re-install OS 10.5.4 (combo updater). The problem occurs with Tinderbox 4.5.1 but not 4.5.0 (at least for now), so the problem may be with this latest update.

Glad you found a fix for now. Have you emailed the company's tech support?

Yes, I did that. It's basically a one-man design operation with support personnel, I believe. Because he didn't have any problems opening it (nor did I on my laptop initially), he thought it was a font problem or something like that. But I've emailed him with this latest info plus some of the console messages just in case it is the program update and not my computer.
