I recently had to reinstall the Leopard OS on my Mac Pro. Now there seems to be a problem with the Disc Utility as double clicking on the icon opens the disc Utility window on the desk top but the circular "opening" icon just keeps going round and round while the "gathering disc info" never goes away and the utility goes no farther towards opening even after 18 minutes. When I wanted to report this to Apple I attempted to do so but that window would not complete opening either. Same symptom as the disc utility.

There were no problems with the reinstall, it went, to my limited knowledge, without a hitch. Can I get some direction on what this symtom is and what I need to do? Thanks.

You could try re-applying the 10.5.4 combo update as this will sometimes fix an issue where a file is corrupt.

Have not heard of the 10.5.4 combo. Not sure what that would entail. I am still reasonably new to Mac (Mac Pro) and am not sure what this all means or what may have caused this problem.

The combo update is a large roll up of all of the updates that Apple has released so far. Re-applying this update sometimes cures issues where one of the delta updates downloaded from software update has caused problems.

Here's the 10.5.4 combo update. It's quite big so if you don't have broadband, you'll be sat there for months. 10.5.4 combo update
