I'm using ripped DVD files to study from and have no trouble watching them at faster speeds at work on a PC using WinDVD or Nero. Watching them at 1.75x is a great time savings.

Can't seem to find a similar program for Mac.

Ultimate DVD only plays discs and these are just the files ripped to an external drive - there are 50 dvds so I don't want to have to burn them all

VLC doesn't play the audio when the video is sped up

M-Video doesn't have any variable playback speeds.

Any suggestions?

I don't want to scan the DVD's at 2x - there's no audio.

I want to watch them at a speed between 1.5-2.0x with video and audio.

To my knowledge DVD Player doesn't allow you to do this.

If you can open the audio and video track in QuickTime Player, you might try pasting the audio into the video track, and then watching at 2x.

Good idea.
I checked this on a ripped DVD I have (ripped as mp4 using handbrake).

Open the file in quicktime, press Command-K to get the A/V controls, then just increase the playback speed.

i have tried ripping via handbrake to mp4, but when I try to watch faster, there are gaps in both the audio and video that make it impossible to understand.

the files are currently in .ifo format. what I'm hearing is that there are no programs like windvd or nero for the mac. too bad.
