I need a simple image cutout program like what photoshop can do, bt I don't NEED photoshop and all the bells and price! I just need to cut out some very basic black on white images to then use with Pages.

Is this possible? Freely or very cheap?

Preview can do some simple outline selection as of the version bundled with OS X 10.5 Leopard.

Pages can remove the white background itself. Simply select Format->Instant Alpha and follow the onscreen instructions.

http://www.gimp.org/macintosh . Works good. Takes a little bit to figure out.
