I need a very simple application like "kunvert" for me to drag and drop to have any file converted to PDF format- Is there any?

I haven't heard of kunvert before. The spelling makes me think of a dirty word. There are Automator actions you can download like this one or you can work on it and make a custom action yourself. I'm sure you also know that there's the built-in print to PDF feature.

Kunvert sounds like a KDE app.

If you can open the file in Preview (or any other OS X app), you can create a PDF from the print dialog.

Right, but a client here needs a quick method to convert it to PDF from scanning. Her scanner provides JPG or PICT format only. The link above for PDF converter does not work anymore. Anyone?

You could use Preview (or an Automator script using Preview):
(1) Open the image.
(2) Select Save As from the File menu and choose PDF as image format.

OreoCookie, yes, I am familiar with this. My client who is a heavy scanner user- she scans 15 pages (1 by 1 page) and she said it is dread to open each 1 by 1 to save as PDF file. Is there any short cut?

As I've written, she can use Automator to convert and combine files to one large pdf. They have PDF actions for this in the Library (Create new PDF from image files and Combine PDFs).

However, nothing will be as fast as getting a `smart' mfc. Because the point is that it takes a long while to get files small -- something which is automatic with a good mfc. I used to scan pages by hand and size them down one-by-one. It took me an hour or so for a manuscript of decent size. Now, I can scan at 15 pages per minute (in full color, it's slower, though).

If she's your client and relies heavily on this, I recommend you suggest her to have a look at smarter mfcs that can do that automatically. Supposedly even cheaper Brother mfc can scan directly to pdf, although I have no first-hand experience with them. We use a Kyocera FS-1118 MFP at work and we (collectively) love it.

I believe that this Automator app will do exactly what you want.

I have a Brother 7020, laser printer, scanner & copier. It's great

It comes with software that will output directly to PDF or send the scanned file to any application.
I have created an Apple Script apps that the scan is processed to. I just press the scan button on the Brother, it will scan the item, then pop-up a dialog asking for a file name and comment tag, then save it.

I use Hazel to post-process the scans.

All works like a charm, I'm now 95% paperless.

Another vote for Automator - what you're describing is pretty much exactly the sort of thing it's designed for.
