hi all. so i rip my snowboard movies to take with me on snowboard trips and it seems i have one that will not let mtr or handbrake even load up. is there some sort of copy protection that is stopping these apps from loading and if so, is there anything i can do? thanks for the help.

It sounds like a bad disc. If you didn't put protection on it, you should be able to copy the VideoTS folder using the Finder (assuming the disc mounts at all).

the dvd mounts and is able to be played as a dvd on my imac. however, as soon as i try and open up either mtr or handbrake the apps freeze and then quit throwing the error that the app "quit unexpectedly".

are you suggesting that i just copy the VideoTS folder then rip it using mtr or handbrake?

thanks.

Some of the newer "disk protection" schemes are pretty gross disks with various intentional nasties.

Try a more capable ripping platform, like DVD Decrypter + AnyDVD on Windows. The options on OS X are pretty weak, even when you pay for them.
