Anybody know an app that registers a service which will evaluate a text string?

for example, I type this into textEdit:

(4844+6434+3432+3465)*20

select it, choose the service from the menu, and bang = the answer ( 363,500 )

Thanks

In TextEdit Services > Script Editor > Get Result of AppleScript works. It pastes back (replaces) the result, so it only works where the text is editable.

Note that you can also copy and paste the equation into the search field of the Spotlight menu at the top right.

Why not just type it into Spotlight?

Oops. I see that I should read the replies first.

Thanks for the replies!

I occasionally have a stack of raw numbers from a database or chart, etc, and I just need to quickly get a sum, or several sums. I fiddle with it in a text editor to remove formatting, tags, or useless columns. Opening Excel or pasting over and over into the calculator is a pain, so why not add them up right there.

And now I can! Cool.
