I really like Spaces. On my little 12" Powerbook it really helps to avoid clutter on the desktop with multiple windows. I use 9 spaces in total, and assigned one app to one space so I can cycle in between and work more efficiently. It works really well with one exception.

Microsoft Word of course is acting really annoying. Its toolbar always gets lost on one of the other spaces. The other thing is when i switch to its space it bounces back to the space i was coming from, then when i select its space a second time it usually works. Sometimes it won't stay in Word's space at all, and makes it impossible to work. Its really annoying right now. I hope you understand my problem.

Please let me know if you are having the same problem. If you have workarounds please let me know. Don't tell me to start using OpenOffice because I pretty much need Word for everything. Thank you so much.

I use Office 2008. I never tried another version of Office with spaces.

Yes, Spaces is great... and MS-Word is an absolute horror show with it. My most common complaint is clicking on a document window... and being immediately transported to another space entirely, with no apparent rationale. Or dialog boxes popping up on other spaces from the document that triggered them, sometimes hidden under other application's windows. It's a night mare.

A company that's responsive to the needs of its customers would have issued a fix by now.

Microsoft is not such a company.

Yes Office 2004 is a real dog with spaces. It sets off all sorts of random behaviour. But then 2004 is a pig on intel macs full stop.

I've not heard about 2008 though. In theory it should be better... but...

I'm having a weird issue with one app that worked the way I wanted it to in Spaces until I registered it. From that point on, when the application gets switched to, the Space containing the current window no longer gets switched to automatically. Oh well.

I was referencing Word 2008. I concede that it's possible that Office 2004 could be worse, but I have insufficient imagination to conceive of how that might look.

All versions of MS Office for Mac are incompatible with Spaces. Typical lame ass Microsoft. Maybe they'll fix it by 2010... if we're lucky.
