Toast is the highest quality third party disc burning software. There are some cheaper options, but other than that your best bet is Disk Utility and the Finder's disc burning features.

Toast 9.0.4 is currently the best burning solution on the mac. I suspect your problems in the past have been hardware related, not software.

I have never had a problem with any incarnation of toast on any version of Mac OS. Ever. I concur with the above. Far more likely to be a hardware issue on your Mac.

What kind of problems did you encounter?

This would take the mysticism out of it.

Toast is king but Disco is also cool and works quite well.

LiquidCD is free and pretty good. But I prefer Toast.

Wasn't there a free app called ffmpeg or something like that? You had to download three different files and stitch them together and it would work as well as Frankenstein.

I like LiquidCD. It is really easy to use, and it does the job.
Ffmpeg is a video application.
