I've done a google search and found a few people talking about attempted fixes for the random white lines that appear in pdfs that are saved out from an Illustrator file.....however, none of them appear to have worked so far.

I have an Ill CS2 file which has images on top of images with drop shadows and the rest of the usual suspects (fonts and vectors) intermingled to make a file.

I have tried a save out directly from Ill and the random lines appear.

I have tried a postscript and then distill and the random lines appear.

I have tried the pdf optimiser option to detect and join - they still appear either by direct pdf or distill.

I have tried flattening transparency and a variety of variations and the random lines still appear.

I have turned off various flattening settings and still the same result....

Has anyone got other ideas on how to work around these thin white lines?

This is normally caused because the distiller rip thinks the shape is extremely complicated.

What you can do is make sure your export settings are on high quality.

Also change the resolution to the highest it will go in the compression field.

make sure your transparency settings are on the highest.

When we get this in the design agency I work in we normally just let it slip if they are not visible on 300% zoom. If you have to zoom in to like 2400% then more than likely this is just the way acrobat is displaying the file as its complicated. Printed it should come out fine!
