My wife is getting a new laptop and needs to migrate her email, addresses, and calendar from Mail.app, AddressBook, and iCal to Windows (Outlook 2007). It seems that the Mac formats are all proprietary. Is there a program than can migrate Mac to WIndows?

Thanks.

None of the formats are proprietary.
- Mail uses standard e-mail boxes that at least Thunderbird can import.
- Address Book uses standard vcards, exporting them is a simple drag & drop (Select All addresses (you want to export), grab them and move the cursor onto the Desktop -- don't let go yet. Then press alt (a plus should appear) and let go. This creates a standard vcard that any decent app should understand. If you have problems, try choosing a different setting version for your vcards in the prefs.
- iCal: I'm not sure.

A great way to move mail is via IMAP. Sign up for gmail, then just copy messages from one Mail.app folder to one of Gmail's corresponding IMAP folders (inbox, sent, etc.).

Move over to Outlook 2007, configure IMAP, and you'll see all the emails there.

Outlook 2007 cannot import these "standard" mailboxes.

This also doesn't work...I have a vcard wih 169 addresses in it that Outlook 2007 doesn't like, I'll try other vcard export versions and see if that works...

I exported each calendar in iCal 2 (Tiger version) then simply imported them into Outlook 2007.

This worked like a champ for the email.

Don't put standard in quotation marks, Apple uses the elmx and mbox format to store messages. It switched so single messages could be spotlighted. However, you still can save your messages in the mbox format:
(1) Select a mailbox.
(2) Select all the messages you want to transfer.
(3) Select Save As ... from the menu. Pick a location and file name.

If Mail's behavior hasn't changed since Tiger, this should give you an mbox file that can be imported straight into Outlook (instructions for Outlook 2003 are at the bottom of the page; shouldn't have changed too much in Outlook 2007).

In the worst case, you have to create individual vcard files.

I'm surprised it took so long to get one of these...only one villager with a torch and pitchfork? My wife's Sawtooth G4 is still running but slow as heck. She wants a laptop with 15" screen so it's either a MacPro or a Windows machine. I got a sweet deal on an HP laptop...

The G4 Mac will become a media center as I manage with my 1st Gen MacPro

As a side note, I didn't feel like exporting/importing 169 contacts so I uploaded my single vCard to Yahoo Mail then downloaded a CSV file which imported perfectly into Outlook. Thanks.
