Go ahead, you know you want to... ...that's better.

I had a window pop up yesterday asking me to update Google Talk. I don't have Google Talk. I do, however have Google Earth and Sketchup, and this app said nothing about them (usually would show 'em, say they're up to date). Upon further examination, I don't even have Google updater on my system.

The app that popped up behaved strangely..no icon in the dock. When I clicked on it, OSX said I was talking to the finder. I had Firefox open, but as I said, not a Firefox window. Doesn't show up as a Firefox extension. Little Snitch said nothing about it, which means it came through one of a small number of already-open ports.

I'm running 10.5 on a Macbook. It's updated regularly, was then up to date and I thought was pretty damn well locked down.

Anyone else want a ticket about the just-got-screwed-by-my-trust-for-Google-paranoia train?

Have you installed the plugin to use video & voice in GTalk in a browser? I can guarantee you that's what it was and it's not a virus - the updater icon was sitting in the menu bar on my Mac, which is probably why it thought you were using the Finder.

Cripes, Google, how about leaving some kinda trail so people can avoid these little freakouts?
