I'd like to get some opinions on software(s) that would be good "upgrade" replacements for iDVD and to a lesser degree iPhoto.
My main intent is to make "movies" from slide shows (ala iPhoto) then create a menu-ed DVD (ala iDVD). From the few attempts I've done, the results have been okay, not great. The finalized layout played & looked good in the application (iDVD) but once I burned a disk the quality just wasn't there. Also the albums in iPhoto are cute but I'd like a little more flexibility in placing captions on pages then what seems available from iPhoto.
Any recommendations or warnings would be appreciated.

I think Toast can do something like this, but I'm not sure if it beats iPhoto + iDVD.
