I tried to start iDvd today so I could import some vhs video on my camcorder to my macbook pro.

It starts up, asks me what to do. I select New Project. It does nothing. If I go to File -> New, it hangs with the famous spinning beachball. No mater what I do I get this spinning beachball.

Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong? I don't even have an idea where to start.

I am running 10.5.6 on a Macbook Pro (the older model).

iDVD is a crap program... unforetunately, it is the best in class when it works. I'd wait on the beachball for a while, see if it lets up. I've had iDVD hang for as much as 3 minutes.

So it isn't just a problem I have. Typical of Apple.

I let it hang there for a while before I forced quit it. I will try again tonight and see if I can't get it to work.

I tried it again, hooked it up. Plugged in my camcorder (both the power and firewire cords).
I tried to run iDVD, it hung there. I left it for about 30 minutes before I gave up.

I switched over to windows xp, used the windows program there to import the video. Burned it to a cd, then went to OSX and used iMovie for the rest.

Oh wait, I just saw the big problem with what you are trying to do... you don't import video with iDVD. You do that with iMovie. iDVD is for making DVD menus, etc.

oooh

Well the problem still exists I guess I couldn't get iDVD to run
Maybe it was the pretty icon with a camcorder and then a cd below it that confused me thinking it would do this
