I want to present merely a portion of a video from YouTube on my website. I managed to download the entirety of the piece to my hard drive using Safari's Activity Window and the resulting .flv file plays back fine using QuickTime Player and the Perian plugin. However, when I tried uploading the video to Photobucket, Veoh, Vimeo, and Google Video (in that order), it failed each time. Next I exported the .flv file from QuickTime Player to a .mov file, and that also failed despite trying all four videosharing websites again! My plan was to upload the video after I'd cut it to the desired length and then embed it on the website. No luck.

Enter splicd.com, which seemed like the perfect solution. But it's embed code does not seem to work (although linking directly to the page of splicd does work). Why am I having such a struggle?? Nothing I'm doing seems to work and I'm nearing my wit's end.

I think keepvid.com will download the H.264 (.mp4) version of a video from YouTube if there is one (a lot of YouTube videos are on their servers in both .flv and .mp4, the latter so that they'll show up on tv and iPhone). Maybe if you get that version of the video you can edit and re-up it.

Interesting strategy. I'll try that. Meanwhile, I e-mailed splicd.com's support and someone named Chad e-mailed me back for more info, but I've heard nothing since I replied to that message. Drat!

You can use a bookmarklet to grab the video in MP4 format directly.
