OK, I'm experiencing all these kernel panics since upgrading to OS X 10.5.6 and even after downgrading thereafter to 10.5.5 -- not fun. I know I need to use Console to try to isolate what exactly is causing the KP, but I'm not so good at reading logs and UNIX-y stuff (not a complete newbie, but certainly no expert). Is there a good tutorial on how to intelligently use Console to fix problems?

*bump* I need some advice on how to use the Console intelligently and how to diagnose/fix kernel panics. C'mon folks. While I'm waiting, I'll go read this article.

Open the console
Click show log list.
Expand Log Files, /Library/Logs, Panic Reporter.
Click through the log file, hope that it has some kernel extensions listed before it crashes so we can try and narrow down the problem. Posting them here would be a good idea.
The only problem I have found since installing 10.5.6 is some disappearing dock icons and my MacBook woke at 4am, 7am then hung. It's not supposed to wake at all.
What Mac do you have? How much RAM do you have? Where did the RAM come from and how long has it been there?

Original I had two Mushkin 1GB SO-DIMMs in there which seemed to work fine for three years. About a year ago I replaced one of them with 2GB module from Crucial, again with no apparent problems.
I'll post some data from the Console next time I have access to that machine.

The loaded modules part of the panic log is the most likely place to find your culprit. If you see something that didn't come with the system in there, good money that's the guy.

Look like a few components of the HP software for my OfficeJet 6310 are implicated in these problems. Hmmm.
EDIT: I reinstalled and so far no more kernel panics, two days and counting. Thanks!
