Firefox: can't auto-download to Downloads folder

This has bugged me for a while. For some reason, since going to 3.0 (I'm at 3.0.5 now), I have been unable to automatically save downloads in the Leopard Downloads folder for my user account. I've always had to manually download stuff there. The little icon in the preferences looks like an alias, as seen in the screenshot, and the field doesn't show the full path to my downloads folder. What am I doing wrong? Any ideas?
