I've been trying to download a 2.4gig file. Some where around 940mb the download error's out. Is there a way to continue downloading to the same file? I noticed that if i hit the reload button in the download window, it starts the download from scratch.

But i want to continue from 940, and not start from 0.

help.

If the server supports it, then Safari will continue the download. If the server doesn't support it, then Safari has no choice but start from the beginning.

That is true, but Apple has made their download API (NSURLDownload, which I presume Safari uses) especially strict so that even if the server does support resumes (the HTTP response header includes "Accept-Ranges: bytes") the API will NOT resume if the response header does not include an ETag (helps ensure that when you resume, you are still downloading the original file).

From what I have been able to determine, the requirement for an ETag is not consistently enforced by other software. I have found that some download managers are able to resume files that Safari can't.

I downloaded an application called iGetter v2.7.5. It downloaded my file in 20 minutes. Much much much faster than Safari allowed me to. Also, I didn't cut out (or it may have, but resumed and finished).

Nifty little app.
