I use Synk Pro for my backup needs. Can do n to 1 backups as well. If you're a student they are flexible with pricing...

I'm not sure this is very clear, are you trying to backup several computers onto a single backup drive or do you want to make simultaneous backsups from one computer to several backup harddrives?

In either case, you shouldn't merely `sync the folders', you should make incremental backups. Synk can do that. But if you're interested in backing up several computers onto one backup disk, so can Time Machine.

Time Machine can back up several drives on a single computer, as well.

I keep my MacBook's internal disk and two externals (project disk and archive disk) backed up to a single 1TB Time Machine disk.

If you're on 10.5 Leopard, this is by far the simplest option.

sorry if it was confusing... i don't want to backup my OS drive... i want to back up 2 or more data drives onto 1. i believe in safe keeping of data on more than on drive.

hence i think syncing could work out well...

thanks.

No, syncs are not good backups.

Just go with Time Machine, it'll do what you want and is really easy to set up.

Synching is a very bad idea, because it means that any errors/corruptions/mangled files/important documents that suddenly have whole chapters missing, are duplicated onto the second drive.

That happens with a backup, as well, but a decent backup software (such as Time Machine) will maintain previous versions of your documents.
