I am having a problem getting ChronoSync v.4.0.1 to backup properly. I have configured the default backup operation ("Backup left to right") and I am trying to backup the content of a folder in my User>Documents folder to an external hard drive.

I have synchronize deletions checked and I have chosen the option to 'delete immediately'. For some reason there have been numerous occurrences in recent days (since using v.4.0.x really) in which the files and folders I delete on the 'source' target are not being deleted on the destination target as well...the folders which are supposed to be deleted simply remain on the destination instead of being trashed as they should be...

The same thing happens to me when I try to backup the package contents of my iPhoto Library to a clone of the library I keep on an external disk (I do have 'disect packages' checked). I noticed the problem upon discovering that my backup iPhoto library was about 100GB larger than the size of my primary (source) library...turns out that things were simply just not being deleted, even though I had the option to delete instead of archive checked in the backup job's settings...??

I've used ChronoSync for years and I am pretty familiar with this program, and I am also quite familiar with OS X ... and there are no obvious permissions issues I can figure out. I've run a battery of system maintenance routines using an application called 'Cocktail' to clear caches; and rotate logs; repair permissions; run cron scripts; reboot/log-out, etc, etc... No luck!

Any suggestions?

A similar phenomenon occurred during the Synk 4.x to 5.0 transition.
The developers are being extra cautious. The utility gets into a mode
whereby: it won't delete anything on the target that it didn't put there.

Instead of choosing 'Backup-Left-to-Right' you may need to go with
'Mirror-Left-to-Right' or perhaps 'Blind-Backup-Left-to-Right'.

I haven't experimented to be able to say for sure... but my guess would be Mirror.
[be sure to do a Trial Sync before committing, to *preview* which actions will take place.]

Another thing is -- when a major update like this comes along -- it's sometimes best
to create new backup configs (ChronoSync "docs") instead of letting the app update
our old ones. For more definitive answers, contact Econ Technologies directly.
