I have Perian, and can play the files that my camera produces, only problem: I can't edit them . (Except the first few seconds of video)

This is my camera http://www.insignia-products.com/pc-...cd-screen.aspx

Can someone tell me how to edit w/o converting? Note on the website, it says "File Format: MPEG4 (H.264) in AVI wrapper"

I'm sooo confused

Do you have Flip4Mac installed? If that is handling the video (maybe due to the use of a MS audio codec), that might explain why you only get a few seconds of editing. That is a limitation of the free version of Flip4Mac.

Open a movie in QuickTime Player and open the Info palette to see which codecs are used.

handbrake.fr or ffmpegX should be able to convert the material to something editable.

Flip4Mac is now installed, but the problem started before I downloaded FfM.

It might not be possible to edit without converting, but if you use QuickTime Pro you can export to mp4 and pass-though the video track, so it doesn't need to be re-encoded and there is no quality loss. Select AAC as audio codec.

If you could upload a sample movie we could have a look at it and try ourselves.

Here's a sample video, the shortest one I found:

http://localhostr.com/files/9107a9/CLIP0012.AVI

I tried to export as a pass through mpeg-4 but it's grayed out
