Well, thank you for reading this post, I do need help.
I have been using computers for 20 years, so I felt (past tense) proficient with computers.
Recently bought a MacBook pro, and got rid of every pc in my life.

Now today for the first time, I tried to Rip and BUrn a DVD that I own, with total failure.

ALL I NEED TO DO IS DUPLICATE A DVD.

Could someone give me an idiots (me) explanation of how I can rip a movie (which I bought and own) and burn it to a blank DVD with my MAC

PLEASE!!

1) Disk Utility ... HELP ....COPY (Applications >> Utilities >> Disk Utility)
or
2) Toast, by far the best way .... COPY (I use Toast 9)

Previous versions (5 anyway) require saving to a disk image then copying that back to a DVD

So I ran the Disk utility, copied the disk as an image, but when I went to save to a new DVD, its said I need 6.7 GB free on the disk when DVD can only store 4.7 GB

Why does life have to be so tuff.

The original DVD is a double layer DVD, so you can't burn it onto a single-layer DVD. You need to transcode it. You can use Handbrake to rip it, for instance.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

If you need help compressing the DVD down to single-layer format, please do search this forum, as this question comes up every few weeks.
