I am trying to slim down my iPhoto library by removing obsolite 'Original' files, most likely via a terminal command I would guess...

I googled the topic and found lots of instruction for previous versions of iPhoto, but wanted to check to see what the proper way of doing this would be for iPhoto '09

Here are some other web pages I've stumbled across that offer solutions, only these solutions are supposedly for past versions of iPhoto:

Anyone have any idea how to properly use the terminal to slim down my iPhoto Library by deleteing obsolite originals?

Thanks!

There is no way to "properly" delete the originals. iPhoto manages the photos and if you interfere with that you mess things up. And the originals are not "obsolete" either. They are there in case you need to return to them again (bad edit, need another crop etc.)

The only proper way to resolve this is to get a bigger hard drive.

And disk space is crazy cheap.

And what if my goal here is not so much to "slim down" iPhoto, but to either stop using iPhoto completely (in which case I want to cleanly export/remove all of my 'final version' images from iPhoto for import into another program, or to perhaps start fresh with iPhoto by removing all of the images and then reimporting them back into a brand new library created by iPhoto '09 for use with iPhoto '09 (as opposed to the currently library I am using that was created for iPhoto 6 and which has been 'upgraded' multiple times over the years) - and which is now acting really problematic and 'weird'...

How then should I deal with this dilemma?

Select all your images and export them. Seems too obvious.

Perhaps it seems obvious to you, but the thing I am trying to avoid here is having to export 30,000+ images into a lossless format (such as TIFF) ~ which would inevitably result in approximately +600GB of storage space needed for the exported photos...not to mention the multiple days it may likely take to complete this process ~ all when by simply choosing to "Show Package Contents" on my iPhoto Library I can have access to a neatly organized hierarchical folder structure of all of my images with no export needed at all... with the only snag here being that there is a 'modified' folder and an 'originals' folder, and I would have to deal with figuring out how not to end up with a mess load of dups (1,000 show up in the modified folder...compared to the 30,000 that currently show up in the originals folder)...

This conundrum doesn't seem so obvious to me...

Select all of the photos, drag them into a folder on your desktop or wherever...

I don't see the issue here. Where did TIFF come into it??

Who said anything about export to TIFF? Just export the JPEGs you already have.

The problem with doing that, of course, is that all events and albums are lost and need to be recreated.

Can't you just tag each album/event with a keyword?
