I just had to exit the unsuccessful set-up of Thunderbird 3 beta 2.

When I put in the imap name of my outgoing mail server, the "continue" buttom stays gray.

It's an outgoing mail server with imap that doesn't use the characters "smtp" in its name. If I put anything with that into the field, it accepts it, but, of course it is wrong.

So, I can't get this thing to send mail. It this beta totally flawed and doesn't work at all?

I tried to edit the info, but nothing I put in gets accepted by Thunderbird.

"Please enter valid server name" is all I get.

I'm putting in exactly the same as in Mail, and it works in Mail.

outgoing server name starts with server03-ssl.

Does your copy of Thunderbird work? Please tell me how you did it. Thanks.

The weirdest thing is that it installed on my computer without asking for a password ("this file is an application").

It's from macupdate, so it should be clean.

Unless the app required an installer, it won't ask for a password to run it.

Not sure what the issue is though regarding the smtp server part.

I erased the beta, and will download Thunderbird 2.

I'll see if I can get my imap account to work there.

I have version 3 beta 2 like you and it works fine. One of my imap accounts does not have 'smtp' in its name and it works fine too.

Are you using an account setup wizard? If so, try letting it do what it wants (including inputting a fake server, ideally localhost so any pwd credentials don't get routed beyond your computer). Once it's set up, go into Account Settings and now try to change your outgoing mail server. Try to add a new one if it won't let you change your current one.

Another option is to use Thunderbird 2 to get it all set up, then upgrade to 3b2.

I actually could set it up. I changed the settings quite a few times.

But now Thunderbird crashes when it sends mail. It crashes at the state "copying mail to sent folder".

There is no sent folder.

Do I have to create one?

Is that the reason why Thunderbird 2 crashes when sending an email?

It also opens very, very slowly. Apple's Mail opens in under 1 second, Thunderbird takes 10 seconds to open. Every time I click on something I see the clock, and then I wait for 5, 6 seconds until the action fails.

Thanks.

Correction: Thunderbird doesn't crash, it's just extremely slow.

AFter a one minute wait it still couldn't copy the sent message, and the message was never sent, too.

I must say: nothing works.

One possible reason: when I downloaded the package, I couldn't drag it into the application folder. Didn't work. I had to pull the app to the desktop, and from there to the application folder.

Maybe the file got damaged on downloading.

It kind of looks incomplete. No sent folder, for example. Can't find it.
