Using the EyeTV software, you can select the recording you created and export it as a .DV file using the Export function from the File menu. You should be able to import the .DV file into iMovie. You can also export your recording as an iMovie project, but I've never tried that so can't speak to how well it actually works.

Thanks for your response. Yes I'd read that solution but the 'export' tab does not highlight so I can't do that. maybe there's something wrong with my eyeTV software do u think?

This may seem ultra-basic, but did you make sure to select the file you want to export? You have to click on it in the Programs list (so that it's highlighted) before you can export it. Alternately, try right clicking on it and taking the export option from contextual box.

I selected file to be exported from list of recordings. There is no program option on my eyeTV250. The export option remains dimmed. In meantime have found a VHS Assistant in Help & am giving that a go even though it is Video8 tape I'm recording & wanting to get into iMovie. Apparently it will export from Assistant to MP3 & this goes into iTunes. Tried a small section of tape & it went now have to try a longer section. It is taking a long time to get anywhere with this

Just to make sure there is no misunderstanding of what I said, this is what you should see:
The only time the Export function is ever grayed out to my knowledge is when there isn't actually a recording highlighted from the EyeTV Programs window.
What version of EyeTV are you running?

Right, but it doesn't actually make a difference what the source of the recording is. The EyeTV 250, in a lot of ways, is ultimately just an input device for your computer. Where the video comes in from a camera, a cable box, a DVD player, a game console, whatever... the type of recording that the EyeTV software produces is the same.
Did you make sure you were selecting the recording from the EyeTV Programs window, like I took a picture of? The screenshot is of EyeTV 3, but I also have 2.5 on my machine and for the purpose of this conversation it is essentially the same, the skin is just a little different.

Thanks for your help. Today I got the free update to eyeTV3 & would you believe there is an export button that does highlight like it's supposed to. Now the only problem, at this stage, seems to be which of the many formats is most appropriate for exporting. 250 plus only had the option to save in mpeg4 - do you think that's the best option or would the iMovie option be better 0r perhaps another. Some of the tapes are 3 hrs long so that may limit things a bit

I'm don't actually know a lot about iMovie so can't really offer an educated suggestion on that, though from the little I've read I'd guess that .DV is the way to go. I would get someone else with more iMovie experience to give feedback here, though.

Thanks again. What I want really is to be able to save old tapes to DVD/external hard drive for storage purposes & to use iMovie to edit out unwanted footages. It seems to be a long process.

If that's all you want to do, I'd actually try just doing your editing in EyeTV, seeing as the footage is already in there. I'm sure iMovie would do a bit of a nicer job, but I use EyeTV to edit out commercials from my recordings all the time and can say that's very easy and yields perfectly acceptable results.

Thanks Have found the editing tools but will leave that bit till a little late. Am still finding with eyeTV the recordings are intermittently hit with small flashes/flickering of light. This is sometimes fixed by beginning again but not always it seems - & it happens with both camcorder tapes & VHS tapes.
