I just installed Extensis Suitcase Fusion 2 on my Mac Pro, 10.5.6, and I’m having some problem with the setup. My system font files are in the root/system/library/font directory, and my “operating” fonts are in the root/library/fonts directory, including those MS Office 2008 installed in a Microsoft subdirectory.

As I was installing SF2, I set the option to leave files in place (not to copy to the vault) and imported my font files. SF2 setup everything up in a library called “system fonts”, with a set called “system” (which contains the system fonts) and a set called “local” with contains the “operating” fonts. The fonts in these sets can not be moved.

I also installed other fonts from another entirely separate directory, in a SF2 “set” called “other”, which I located in a SF2 library named “fonts”.

Since all my fonts are in two SF2 libraries, I can not view all my fonts at one time.

As a fix, I copied all my “operating” fonts from the root/library/fonts directory into another entirely separate directory, and from there installed them into a SF2 set called “apple” which I located in the same SF2 library “fonts”. Now I can view all my fonts in the two sets by clicking on the SF2 library called “fonts”. Other fonts can be installed in other sets, under the same library “fonts”.

All the fonts in the SF2 set “local” in the “system” library have been deactivated. All the fonts in the SF2 set “apple” in the “font” library are active (but some that are not used will be deactivated in the future). Everything seems to work.

1: Is this the proper way to set up SF2?

2: Should I delete the SF2 “system” library and try to reinstall the fonts in the “font” library?

3: Any suggestions or comments?

After talking to the Suitcase Fusion 2 Tech Support folks, I think I have my answers.

I copied my root/library/fonts directory to another location, so I could install them in the "fonts" library. The SF2 tech folks said I could delete the original root/library/fonts directory, which would allow me to delete the "local" set from my SF2 “system” library. But I elected to just turn those “local” set fonts off, and leave them in place.

My reason is that I have another user on this computer, and I wanted to leave their side untouched, so they could use all the fonts that were originally installed in both the root/system/fonts directory, and the root/library/fonts directory.

Everything works perfectly with SF2 the way I have it set up.
