If I am not mistaken, per forum rules, this topic has to be regarded as "separate" from my previous Appleworks thread.
So, I want to get a NeoOffice spreadsheet to work in Appleworks. Naturally, my first instinct is to export in NeoOffice to an Excel, and then let MacLinkPlus do its thing and go from there.
But MacLinkPlus locks up when I try to open the NeoOffice-exported Excel format.
I've tried using the XP-compatible and even the Win95 Excel formats.
I've also tried exporting a test spreadsheet (literally 3 cells with two words of text), exported to Excel format to see if MacLinkPlus would convert it. No go.
This is on an iMac G5 and Appleworks 6.2.9 for Mac OS X 10.5.
(Search results linked to outdated information, i.e., Appleworks 5.)

K, so... anybody know what to do?
It would take me about 3 hours to copy my financial data manually over to Appleworks, but still, I'd rather be able to access my data in like 5 seconds, rather than wait a minute for NeoOffice to start up and show my work in the sheet.

Is speed of opening the only reason you're using Appleworks? It really is deprecated now.
I use Open Office 3, the launch time is frustrating, but I just leave it running all the time.

Yeah, AppleWorks barely made it on to OS X. There are other Mac spreadsheet apps out there, aside from Excel and NeoOffice, that are actively developed.
iWork 09 Numbers
Mariner Calc
Tables

Have you posted this as a bug at the NeoOffice forums? You are much more likely to get an informative response there regarding export from NeoOffice than you are here...

This isn't a NeoOffice bug.

True, it is an MS bug that their closed file format is utter bollocks.

Apparently Appleworks cannot open .csv files.
Anything else? Why would MacLinkPlus not be working anyways?
I do not see Tab Delimited anywhere.
(Side note: One or two of my spreadsheets need to be opened lightning fast. I could use Appleworks for at least those, since QuickLook doesn't give me nav. controls for multiple cells/Neo pages.)
Here's what I get from the Activity Monitor Sample Process:

If I'm not mistaken, exporting would work fine with NeoOffice 2, but maybe NeoOffice 3 doesn't.

Update: I've already tried erasing my hard drive/refreshing my computer from scratch, and bringing back just the usual Apps, including Appleworks, and that NeoOffice-exported Excel document. Same problem.
Is it a problem with my copy of Appleworks??

Yes it is.
I just happened to give MacLinkPlus another shot, this time, using a random .doc Microsoft Word document that someone sent me.
Appleworks/MacLinkPlus translated it no problem, but it will not do it for a simple NeoOffice 3 document.
This resolves my problem.
