New poster / Longtime reader of MacNN forums has a question...
I've read a lot about MS Office 2008 issues. Many posts indicate that iWork 09 opens .docx just fine. Can anyone tell me (or direct me to a link that I haven't found) if other MS Office users (07/08) can open up my Pages documents without its format being altered?
I'm looking to upgrade to a new MBP, but DON'T want to buy any new MS products!! I'd rather go with iWork 09 but want to be certain that I can send/email Pages documents and have them opened by colleagues using MS Office 2007/Office 2008.
Any help is appreciated!!

No, Office can't open Pages documents. You'll have to save them to something else.

Go with Nisus Writer Pro, it uses RTF to save files. RTF is a native format of Microsoft Office.

Pages can save as docx (and pdf, and rtf).. You can use iwork.com to let the recipient choose which format (pages, docx, pdf).
Nisus Writer Pro is $79.. Same as iWork.. Heck, textedit can save as RTF..
Look into neooffice.org before you spend money on something other than iWork.

RTF is not used as an export format, but as the native document format. Any OS X app that allows printing (unless it's specifically disabled, hello, Adobe, I'm talking to you) can generate a pdf.
However, it's much easier to work with a native document format rather than having to export things (and losing bits and pieces in the process).
