Plex is just another XBMC fork (like Boxee).
I recommend trying the original XBMC with the Aeon skin and various plugins to make it suit your needs.
The whole thing was confusing at first but does the job for me now that I figured out how everything works. (File browsing mode vs. Library mode, etc). Oh, and XBMC is easy to set up on a patched ATV whereas Plex doesn’t support it AFAIK.
