Hi everyone,

I am thinking of setting of a CalDEV server here at the house/home office for iCal. My question is, What will I gain from having my own iCal server here? There will be two people, my wife and myself. We would be setting up appointments for clients with a computer business on the server. Right now we do it without a server, so I'm wondering what we will gain and what coolness factor I will achieve by putting the CalDEV server up in the first place?

Not helpful technically, but it'll be easier to find info if you look for CalDAV, rather than CalDEV.

The whole point of CalDAV is to allow simultaneous writes to a calendar from multiple computers/accounts. If both you and your wife want to write to this calendar from your own respective machines, this would be a good option if you have a spare Mac (you can run iCal Server on other OSes, but delegation doesn't work last I tried). However, if this information is not terribly sensitive, you could also use Google's free CalDAV server with iCal.
