I have tried installing Micr Office 08 for mac on my 2008 Black MacBook and have received this message when choosing location (my HD) for download:

"You cannot install Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac on this volume. This software requires Mac OS X version 10.4.9 or higher."

I ran the sw_vers command under Terminal to determine what version of Mac OS X I have and it turns out I have version 10.5.6. What am I to do now? I have the necessary requirements and it still won't allow me to install the program.

Thank you

Can you take a screenshot of the window giving the error? Might you be trying to install it onto a second partition on the disk?

Just another example of why Office 2008 is an abomination.

Office 2004 was a simple drag-and-drop install if you wanted to.

I had trouble installing a "demo" of Office 2008 so I bought a copy and never had any issues whatsoever (other than slowness on a MacPro w/ 7GB memory but that's another story).

I've heard the same thing. Have you installed it on any computers yet?

I had bought Office 08 though my University about a year ago. I was coming from Office 04. What a mistake. It was buggy, bloated, and seriously slow. A few months back I picked up iWork 09, and have been completely satisfied with it. Since you can save work in a Office friendly format it does well for me. I have yet to run into a professor being unable to open my work.

Not to mention openoffice and neooffice... Why do people still buy Office?
(I wholeheartedly agree that iWork is the best option.)

I tried both Open Office and Neo Office and wasn't really impressed by either one. However, if I was primarily a Windows user, I would probably go with Open Office.

i am having the same problem as JSKOTT..

I get the message

"You cannot install Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac on this volume. This software requires Mac OS X version 10.4.9 or higher."

and I also have 10.5.2

I tried downloading the free trial and then wanted to just change the serial code to mine but it still gives me that message.

any ideas?
