OK thanks, I actually went and bought iLife 09, and used iDvd, but now I have another question, why does it take 2.5 hrs to make a dvd ?

iDVD is a pretty bad (slow and low quality) encoder.

I want to do the same thing, but add a .srt (subtitle) file to the .avi so it plays on a DVD.

Any suggestions?

Maybe I'm not configuring Toast correctly. I have tried Video > DVD-Video, then I drop the .avi file and the .srt in and click burn, but actually it doesnt burn anything, it encodes into a .m2v and a .ac3, which do not have the subtitles merged (.srt)?

Without burning the subtitles into the video, the only thing I know is DVD Studio Pro. A Google search says there's a cheaper way, but I don't have any experience with that.
