Howdy, im replacing a stock MB 250g drive with a new seagate 320g. Its a 2.4ghz MB, 4 g.ram. dvd is 10.5.2, but somewhere in my 'backup' i was up to 10.5.6...

heres my tale of woe...

complete back up to a external FW drive with TM
remove old drive, insert new drive.
start up from DVD
"restore?"
yes please!
all seems to go well until "restoring application support files, less than a minute to go"

cant get past that, get a vague 'something is wrong with your network' message and thats it. I can work the machine from there if i go through the register/info process etc, all my apps and files appear to be present but i cant register under my orginal name and the desktop is not updated nor is the os...

suggestions or comments?

many thanks
Craig

So after some back and forth, erasing new drive and starting from scratch heres how i got it to work...

Previously, id booted from the DVD, gone through a couple of steps until the page came up with the two mac icon happy faces and the various options of proceeding, the last one being restore from time machine, this is the option that failed.

So, erased and started again, and as soon as the install options/finder type banner at the top of the screen cam along i went to the drop down that has disk utility and other options in it, and chose restore from time machine, proceeded through a couple of windows and hey hey, it successfully reloaded all my stuff. happy me.

Im over it now, but i do find it curious that two different paths to do the same thing...one good, one bad...

go figure, anyway, enjoy your muesli.

xx
