Hi,

I have a Sony DCR-PC1E video camera with hundreds of tapes I want to convert into iMovie and edit onto DVD's. What cable do I need for iMovie to recognize it and what mode does the camera need to be in??

Your camera uses Mini-DV tapes-it's already digital. You should be able to import that video by simply connecting a Firewire cable between the camera and the Mac (you need the appropriate miniature "B" end for your camera) and import the video. To import, you tell iMovie to import and it will remotely put the camera in "Play" mode and pull the data off of it through the cable. I have a NTSC Sony Mini-DV camera, and while it can be boring waiting for the import, since it happens in real time rather than being faster than that, it works very well. It's the ONE Sony product I have that actually cooperates with my Macs.
