I'm having an issue with Mail that I can't resolve. Somehow one of my user accounts ended up with a duplicate IMAP account that was named identically to the primary one that is in use. The two accounts show up with the exact same name in the Accounts pane of Mail's Preferences. This duplicate account is empty. The only difference between the two accounts is that the duplicate one has listed an older server setting that I stopped using. I think that when I got mail set up properly on the new web host I migrated to recently, somehow I was able to name the new IMAP account I created using the same name I had previously used. Now Mail can't change the superfluous listing at all. I can't change the name of the account, delete it, or modify it any way because I get the following invalid directory dialog box:

INVALID DIRECTORY
The account path /Users/___/Library/Mail/IMAP-____.com is already being used by the account “______.com IMAP”

Others have reported this issue online but since it's probably not that common Apple hasn't fixed it. I tried looking in ~/Library/Mail/ but don't know what file to edit to fix the problem. The only thing that I can see that's close to what I'm looking for is in the BackupTOC.plist, but since that's only a backup I imagine it wouldn't help to edit it anyway. This is mostly a cosmetic problem, but I'd like to figure it out and hopefully help other people with the same issue. Anyone have any suggestions?

I came back to Mail after a number of hours, tried fetching mail with the duplicate account, and then just on a lark attempted to delete it. This time it worked!
